Getting support from loved ones

The family and loved ones of people with addiction often unwittingly develop dysfunctional, unproductive compensating behaviours. This kind of codependent behaviour actually helps prolong their loved one's addictions.

Families play a central role in rehabilitation. That's why Nouveau Départ has a special program for spouses and families. The family and Loved Ones program consists of 21 hours of group therapy, spread over seven weeks, led by one of our professional therapists.

Every week, family members and loved ones attend a three-hour information and discussion session, an opportunity for them to break the silence, learn to express their emotions and feelings, and find new ways of interacting with loved ones grappling with addiction. Our approach help families and loved ones cultivate their independence and maintain the emotional distance needed to best help the person with addiction problems.
